She studied law, history and political science at various Russian higher educational institutions (1984-1994), received a doctorate in philosophy in 1995, and was enrolled in the Faculty of Basic and Integrative Sciences of the University of Vienna. Fellow at FWF (Lise Meitner Postdoctoral Fellowship), Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for the Consequences of Wars. She worked at the Austrian State Archives (Commission of Historians) and the Institute for the Danube Region and Central Europe/Vienna (IDM). A series of lectures and seminars at the Diplomatic Academy of Vienna, at the Institute for the History of Eastern Europe of the University of Vienna, as well as at the Institute of Political Science of the University of Vienna.

She is currently vice-president and manager of the International Center for Eastern Europe Research (ICEUR).
Publications on Russia's foreign and security policy, Austrian and international politics, political Islam and ethno-political conflicts in the post-Soviet space.

Dr. Ullrika Sahlin is Associate Professor in Scientific Assessment and Environmental Science at Lund University, Sweden. Her research is interdisciplinary with focus on quantification and communication of uncertainty in scientific assessments for government and industry in the context of human and animal health.

Her thinking on Bayesian, subjective, and imprecise probability has been shaped by collaborations with Professor Nils-Eric Sahlin, Medical Ethics, Lund University, and Professor Matthias Troffaes, Department of Mathematical Sciences, Durham University. A postdoctoral visit to Professor Hugh Possingham, University of Queensland, Brisbane, enabled her to work with quantitative methods for assessment, evidence synthesis and decision making under uncertainty.

In 2019, she became a member of the cross-cutting working group on uncertainty at the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) with the task to support them in implementing their guidance on uncertainty analysis in scientific assessments.

Her current research includes robust Bayesian analysis for evidence synthesis, methodologies to characterise uncertainty in new approach methods for human risk assessment, impact assessment land-use decisions on biodiversity, and novel methods for expert knowledge elicitation.

Dr. Trefor Bazett is an Associate Teaching Professor in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Victoria, Canada. He holds a PhD in Mathematics from the University of Toronto, and his academic interests include mathematics education and algebraic topology.

He is an award-winning mathematics educator and the creator of extensive online educational resources covering probability, calculus, linear algebra, differential equations, and other areas of mathematics. His published teaching materials on probability include conditional probability, Bayes’ Theorem and Bayesian inference.

Dr. Bazett received the PIMS Education Prize in 2024 and the University of Victoria Faculty of Science Award for Teaching Excellence in 2025.
